I love letting the borrowed prayers of others become my own prayers.
We often begin each morning homeschooling with what we call “Morning Time”. We are all together, we pray, talk about bigger world topics, generally learn a hymn, have a writing/drawing prompt, and read a book together. The younger ones sit with something that keeps them busy and we all join in together to an imperfect space.
This particular prayer today is one we read most mornings, which my nine-year-old often asks if he can read for us. I love hearing his voice read this beautiful prayer—it’s simple, yet so welcoming as you being a new day. I pray it is a blessing to you no matter when you listen throughout your day.
This prayer is borrowed from Kayla Craig’s beautiful book, “Every Season Sacred”.
A Prayer for Morning
O God of hope, we thank You
For the breath in our lungs
And the gift of a new day.
As surely as the sun rises,
Your mercy covers the earth.
We ask you to help us start fresh
As we embark on the adventures
You have for us.
May all the people we meet today
Know us by our love.
May all the things we do today
Be in worship to You.
Thank You for the gift
Of another morning
On Your big, beautiful earth.
Where there is pain,
May we bring healing.
Where there is suffering,
May we bring hope.
Be with each of us
As we go about the day.
And when the day is done,
Bring us home safely
Under the shelter of Your wings.
Amen.
Substack always offers their writers the option to open up for paid subscriptions. I know many writers on this platform offer this to their subscribers, but for me, I hope to always keep what I offer here in this space free of charge. My husband and I already serve in support-based missions work in diaspora ministry, specifically in refugee care. If you ever wanted to support my writing—you could give a one-time or recurring donation to our ministry and that would be a huge blessing.
