Here you are 2025—you came for us whether we were ready or not.
Perhaps you were on the edge of your seat waiting to ring in the new year. Maybe you have been dreading what the next twelve months have the potential to hold. Or maybe, like me, you are tenderly holding the raw and joyful places that the past year held and also holding hope for what new life God will bring in the coming months.
Wherever the beginning of this new year finds you—welcome. You made it. You are here today—this is important to notice and name.
You are an image bearer of God. You shine His light in the image He created you in—that alone is worth celebrating this year.
So here I come to you, at the forefront of a beginning, gently offering you a blessing over your new year. A blessing to name what we’ve traversed through and what we will encounter to come. Because, all is holy ground.
A Blessing as You Begin a New Year
As you step over the threshold of newness, may you do so with kindness for yourself.
May you gaze back and remember the hands you were able to hold this past year,
the love you were able to give,
the losses you grieved,
the joy you celebrated in,
the tears you cried,
the food you partook in,
the disappointments that surprised you,
the spaces you lived in, worked in, and worshiped in—
where God was present in all.
///
May you today, right now, look around at where you’ve come from and remember,
you are important,
you are seen,
you are known,
you are held,
you are worthy of Love coming down to this earth to encompass you,
you are a deeply treasured child of the Divine.
///
May you lift your eyes to the horizon of what is to come in this new year,
feeling hope rise in your chest for what this year may welcome,
feeling dread for what you know might unfold,
feeling courage as you step into something new,
feeling fear as you gaze into the abyss of the unknown,
feeling safe as you remember—
the hands that weaved the stars formed and created you.
These hands hold you today and always.
///
May you invite tender grace for yourself and those that walk through the threshold with you.
May you always feel the weaving and working of God’s love in the ever-present moments of your day.
And when you don’t feel His goodness and love, may you continue doing the next thing—brushing your teeth, making the bed, driving the commute, making the lunches, wiping the counter—
knowing that Love surrounds and encompasses you in all.
Amen.
Substack always offers their writers the option to open up for paid subscriptions. I know many writers on this platform offer this to their subscribers, but for me, I hope to always keep what I offer here in this space free of charge. My husband and I serve in support-based missions work in diaspora ministry, specifically in refugee care. If you want to support my writing—you could give a one-time or recurring donation to our ministry and that would be a huge blessing.
