Beautiful reminder. Naming just what we have done this week when God gifted us with a sick kid that drastically changed our Christmas plans, but also gave space to just be, to linger.
I am lingering in what was (Christmas on steroids; trees decked to the nines, Santas everywhere, place settings, dishes and napkin all in matching array, smells from heaven floating from the kitchen) and what is and is to come by way of health challenges in my world of caregiver. This year she delighted in the season with poinsettias and wreathes adorning the doors but forgot the day, the time and the purpose. Happy Thanksgiving she sang to all who called and then chuckled as she corrected herself with a resounding Merry Christmas! It was a quiet day. One visitor, no gifts exchanged. We watched TV and reminisced about days gone by. Nothing to do with Christmas but just life in general. We ate in companionable silence and soon pain and sundowners appeared. Our day had come to an end but what a beautiful day because she was here. She still is and I'll linger with that a little longer. The gift that it is...
